EAM Back to school blogtour: be the leader

In België gaan de schoolpoorten vanaf 3 september weer open. Dat wil zeggen dat zowel de meisjes als ik opnieuw starten. Ikzelf als leerkracht, de kinderen in de derde kleuterklas en het derde leerjaar. Dus zijn we ons al enige tijd aan het voorbereiden. Ook al is de school momenteel nog gesloten, de voorbije weken was ik al wel aan het werk. Niet alleen om mijn klas op orde te zetten, maar ook al een aantal vergaderingen, voorbereidingen, … vonden plaats. Toch overweegt nu nog het vakantiegevoel. De gejaagdheid van de schoolmaanden is nog achterwege. Ik kan nog makkelijk tijd inplannen voor wat naaiwerk. Dat zal binnenkort wel anders zijn…

In Belgium, the school gates open on the 3 of September. That means that both the girls and I are starting again. I myself as a teacher, the children in kindergarten and the third grade. So we have been preparing for some time now. Even though the school is currently still closed, I have already been working the past few weeks. Not only to put my class in order, but also a number of meetings, preparations, … took place. Yet the holiday feeling is still present!

Altough I look forward going back to work, during vacations I can easily plan time for some sewing. That will soon be different …

September betekent ook dat er herfstig weer aankomt. De ene dag warm, zelfs hittegolven kunnen nog in die periode, maar soms ook al echt hondenweer. Gewoonlijk laat ik dan zo stilaan de kleedjes achterwege, en ga ik voor een jeans of lange broek met een top er boven. Ik schreef me voor het eerst in voor een blogtour, met het thema ‘Back to school’, en dus ging ik aan de slag 🙂

September also means that autumn will arrive soon. In Belgium the weather can still be quite warm, even a heatwave is still possible,  but it can just as well be cold, windy and raining all day… Dressing up in the morning can be tricky!  Usually, dresses are staying in the closet, and I go for jeans or pants with a shirt on top.

For the first time I signed up for a blogtour, with the theme ‘Back to school’, and so I started sewing 🙂

De blogtour toont allerlei Ellie&Mac-patronen, waar ik er toevallig al heel wat van heb (zie hier). Ik wilde al een hele tijd de ‘Be-the-leader-top’ maken, en deze tour is er de uitgelezen kans voor.

The blogtour shows all kinds of Ellie & Mac patterns, where I happen to have a lot of  (see here). I wanted to make the ‘Be-the-leader-top’ for a long time, and this tour is the perfect opportunity.

Als juf moet je je uiteraard wel aan een aantal kledingregels houden. Zo zijn blote schouders niet toegelaten. Het leuke aan deze top is dat de schouders niet helemaal bloot zijn, waardoor het nog net door de beugel kan. Bovendien kan je deze top eigenlijk wel zo dragen dat je schouders helemaal niet zichtbaar zijn. Trek de schouderlijn wat naar beneden en deze top kan je ook prima dragen met ontblootte schouders tijdens een uitje buiten de schooluren.

As a teacher, you obviously have to stick to a number of clothing rules. This means that bare shoulders are not allowed. The nice thing about this top is that the shoulders are not completely exposed, so it’s acceptable enough. Moreover, you can actually wear this top so that your shoulders are not visible at all. Pull the shoulder line down a bit and you can also wear this top with bared shoulders during an evening out.

Bij het stofje dat ik koos, leek het mij fijn om een kleine hack te doen, en er een kleedje van te maken, maar tijdens het passen vond ik het model niet mooi staan op mijn figuur. Ik knipte er dus een deel vanaf, en het werd alsnog een top 😉

Maar ik gooi niet graag stofjes weg, dus met het weggeknipte deel maakte ik een eenvoudig rimpelrokje voor de jongste.

With the fabric I chose, I thought it would be nice to do a small hack, and make a dress out of it, but during the fitting I did not like the model on my figure. So I cut a part of it, and it became a top anyway 😉

But I do not like to throw away fabrics, so with the part I cut off,  I made a simple wrinkle skirt for the youngest.

In deze blogpost geef ik jullie ook een beetje inkijk op mezelf als leerkracht, want foto’s maakte ik in mijn eigen klas, de laatste klas die nog beschikt over een krijtbord! Helaas zijn ze niet van super goede kwaliteit, want ik had weinig tijd en de foto’s werden genomen door mijn vijfjarige dochter…

In this blog post I even give you a little bit of insight into myself as a teacher, because I made pictures in my own classroom, the last one that still has a chalk board! Unfortunately they are not of super good quality, because I had little time and the photos were taken by my five-year-old daughter …
